From privileged birth in the stables of a country house, Black Beauty's fate changes when his kind, wealthy owner loses his fortune. Black Beauty is then sold to a rich but cruel owner. He rebels against the treatment he receives. Life worsens still further when he is sold again and reduced to the hard work of pulling a cab in London's busy, dirty, and noisy streets.
